Küssel custody prolonged

Neo-Nazi scene figurehead Gottfried Küssel remains in detention, it has been announced.Juridical officials in Vienna – where the fascist was arrested last Monday – said today (Thurs) they have decided to keep Küssel in custody.Various documents and data storage devices were seized by special police units investigating against Austria’s far-right circles when six properties in Vienna and Styria were searched on Monday. Küssel is suspected of cooperating with organisers of a controversial website.The “Alpen-Donau” discussion platform was taken offline last month after prosecutors in Vienna asked their counterparts in the USA for support since the homepage was run via a server located in the United States – making it impossible for Austrian officials to take action.Around one dozen people engaging in discussions on the homepage were identified by Austrian investigators. They are facing jail for breaching the country’s anti-Nazi propaganda law. Officials explained they deliberately decided to wait with asking colleagues in the USA to take action to get more information on the offenders by hacking the site themselves.Küssel is suspected of disguising a facility where neo-Nazis may have met in Vienna by branding the property as a “national organic food store.” Dozens of nationalists and skinheads took to the streets of the German city of Dortmund on Tuesday evening to demonstrate against his arrest.
