Live open air opera returns

Dozens of performances will be screened live outside Vienna’s leading opera house this and next month, it has been announced.State Opera officials said today (Thurs) they decided to show selected operas on a 50 square metre LED video screen on Herbert von Karajan Square free of charge again this season after hundreds of music enthusiasts gathered at each performance last year.An overall 32 operas will have been screened just outside the world famous venue at the end of October.A varied selection of operas will be on the screen including works by famed composers like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi. He however also pointed out he planned to stage several modern works as well.The Frenchman who took over from Ioan Holender on 1 September. The Romanian headed the opera for 18 years – longer than anyone before.The new season kicked off with a performance of Wagner’s monumental opera “Tannhäuser”.
