Two injured as compressed air tank blows up

Two people were injured when a compressed air tank exploded at a diving club in Vienna-Penzing yesterday (Tues).Authorities said today a diver’s right hand was shredded by the blast as he filled a compressed air tank with oxygen, adding that the man suffered serious injuries to his lower body as well.His eight-year-old grandson, who was standing next to him, also suffered injuries to his leg.The man was airlifted to a clinic, while the boy was taken by ambulance. Doctors have not yet said whether they manage to save the 58-year-old’s hand.Police have confiscated the compressed air tank and the compressor to find out whether human error or technical failure caused the explosion.
