Another WWII missile secured in Vienna
The discovery of a wartime hand grenade caused panic in Vienna yesterday (Tues).Workers called the police after unearthing the World War Two era grenade during excavation activities at a building site in Landstraße district yesterday morning, police in the capital announced today.Explosives experts of the federal interior ministry, who were alerted by police, secured the grenade which in fact posed no danger as it lacked a detonator, according to todays official statement.Explosives specialists found and defused almost 28 tons of unexploded missiles from World War One (WWI) and Two (WWII) in 2009, the interior ministry recently said.Only last week, hundreds of ice-skaters were evacuated from the frozen over Alte Donau branch of the Danube River after children discovered a 250-kilo aerial bomb below the surface.
