Austrian Airlines expanding

Lufthansa subsidiary Austrian Airlines (AUA) has plans to expand once the current savings have come into effect.

But according to AUA-managing director Karsten Benz they said they would be looking to add new destinations and new partners.

He is also keen to have longer destinations, And he said that an additional 10 long-distance routes would be added by next year at a cost of e80 million. Then there will be an Additional three destinations to America in the number of routes offered, to New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. The New York route will be thrown at least five times a week.

Benz, who’s only been on the board of directors for a month, is particularly keen to expand the operations from Vienna.

To fly the route the Boeing 767s that were freed up from the Bombay route will be used.

Benz hopes that by flying to Newark they will be able to appeal to business travellers who want to spare themselves long distance to the JFK airport.

they also said that there was a certain charm and being able to fly to Chicago which is also planned to be on the list by 2013. There would be paying to do that together with their Star-Alliance-Partner United Airline, and would also be going to Los Angeles.

For those two destinations they needed Boeing 777s.

Chicago was cancelled as an AUA destination in the winter of 2008/9.
