Wood pellets heating to get more expensive

People heating their homes using wood pellets must brace themselves for higher prices this winter, it has been claimed.ProPellets Austria – a pellets producer interests association – said today (Fri): “The price for one tonne of pellets normally increases by 10 to 20 Euros ahead of the winter season.”It explained that the current price was 207 Euros, adding that a family home needed six tonnes of pellets on average in the cold season.Austria is the second largest wood pellet producer per capita in the world.Only Sweden produced more pellets per capita, according to a recent survey.Austria’s production capacity was the sixth largest in the world at 1.07 million tonnes and it produced 700,000 tonnes of pellets last year. The country’s 70,000 pellet customers had used 590,000 tonnes, and exports of pellets had amounted to 110,000 tonnes.The world’s largest pellet producer are the United States of America with 4.2 million tonnes followed by Germany with three million tonnes produced annually.
