Leeds – Salzburg skiing link ticket sale starts

Tickets for flights from Leeds to Salzburg are now on sale, Jet2.com has announced. The British budget carrier said seats for its service between Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBA) in West Yorkshire, Great Britain, to Salzburg Airport (SZG) in the heart of the Salzburg Alps can be booked on its homepage as of now. The airline, which had around three million customers in 2009, said it was offering one flight a week on the route between 23 December 2011 and 14 April 2012.The number of skiers and snowboarders opting for flights to SZG has been on the rise in the past years as more and more low-cost carriers head for the airport which is located just a few kilometres from some of Austria’s most popular slopes.Jet2.com’s 2011/12 winter flight schedule also features links to the Swiss city of Geneva and Chambery in France. The company’s website features extensive information on the difficulties of pistes in skiing regions situated around the airports it is heading for next winter. The airline’s internet representation also gives customers the chance to download maps and gather information on the weather in the Alps.Earlier this year, the Austrian Alps were favourably mentioned in the Daily Telegraph’s ranking of the 20 best places to go on holiday this year. The British newspaper’s non-numbered list, which was published in January, also included Peru, Sri Lanka and Stockholm in Sweden. The daily newspaper praised the Austrian Alps for “having taken the pragmatic step of offering more value for money in these financially straitened times.”The Telegraph also claimed that France could be overtaken by Austria shortly as British skiers’ favourite winter vacation destination. It added: “No one does après ski like the Austrians.”
