Pedestrian hit by car dies instantly
A pedestrian died on the spot after he was hit by a car on Sunday morning, police in Upper Austria said today (Tues).The 30-year-old man was walking along a main road near Nebelberg in the provinces Rohrbach district. The driver of the car ploughed into the pedestrian around 5am.Officials have not been made clear whether the 26-year-old man was speeding. They, however, stressed that a breathalyser test showed that he was not drunk.The driver remained uninjured, but had to be treated for shock at a nearby hospital.The killed man was walking along the right side of the road. People are generally advised not to walk on main roads, but children in Austrian schools are also being told they must walk on the left-hand side of streets if there is no pavement on either side.Statistik Austria recently said 247 people lost their lives, and more than 20,300 people were injured on Austrian roads in the first half of this year.
