Elderly man drowns spending a penny
A pensioner has died after he slipped while spending a penny close to a riverbank.Police in Peggau, Styria, said today (Tues) the 68-year-old had probably lost his balance while relieving himself on top of an embankment at the local Hammerbach creek.The mans body was discovered floating in the 40-centimetre deep water by a pedestrian last Friday, officials said. Police have ruled out foul play.The news comes on the heels of an elderly Salzburg woman dying in a lake after her car was hit by another vehicle when she backed out of a parking space.Hallein police said the woman, 74, failed to stop her VW Golf from ending up in the Wiestal reservoir after it was rammed by another driver when she reserved out of a parking spot.Fire-fighters jumped into the ice-cold pond without protective neoprene suits to rescue the pensioner, but paramedics failed to revive her.
