Shark tank to be added to Vienna aquarium
The Vienna city centre aquarium the "Haus des Meeres" ("House of the Ocean") is being modified again to add a massive new shark aquarium and a new multi-purpose conference area.
Two projects are the main focus of the construction of the building in the Esterhazypark. A 150,000 liter pool for hammerhead sharks and a conference room with 165 square meters are the newest editions to the "Haus des Meeres".
On the roof an annex of 150 square meters and made entierly of glass is also currently under construction.
A stone-coral aquarium has already been finished and offers the public the chance to see corals that are now rare in the oceans.
Michael Mitic the manager of the "Haus des Meeres" emphasized that the corals in their house are not taken from the ocean but from other zoos. A reason for the zoo to have these corals is to show their visitors their beauty and emphasise how endangered they are.
Furthermore the zoo is also trying to breed the corals to learn how to propagate them in the future.
The projects being currently under construction are to be finished within a year but more constructions are planned for the future as well.
