Car holidays increasingly popular
Holidaymakers from Salzburg are increasingly choosing their car to go on holiday.
A survey by Salzburg tour operators has shown that people prefer to travel by car with the preferred destinations being Croatia, followed by Italy and then Austria.
"In Austria the most popular destinations are Carinthia and the Styrian thermal spa regions," said the president of the Austrian Travel Agents Committee Josef Peterleithner.
Holidaymakers who choose to travel abroad are choosing Spain, Tunisia or Egypt. Tunisia and Egypt are enjoying a particular comeback. Turkey and Mallorca are also popular.
But Greece is not very popular. Peterleithner said: "Greece has a decline of 15-20 per cent in bookings. But this minus is decreasing from week to week.
Cruises are also increasing in popularity.
Manager of GEO-Reisen, Patrick Weitzer, said: "Cruses are increasingly popular with our customers. They have become a good alternative to club holidays."
