China meets Hallstatt
After a long time of speculation and anticipation the exact copy of Austrian world heritage village of Hallstatt-Dachstein in China will be unveiled, and there will be real-life Austrians present for the ceremony.
On 28 May that the Chinese replica of the Upper Austrian village Hallstatt will be opened to the public. The village has been built to be an exact copy of the original, and lies in the Guangdong province.
The housing project, first opposed by Austrian officials, will be opened five days later on 2 June, and a delegation from the original Hallstatt will be present to further tourism relations between Austria and China.
Tourism Director Pamela Binder said: "For Hallstatt tourism, this is an infusion. Our good co-operation with the local tourism office has assured fruitful future contacts."
Binder continued: "To the Chinese, our world heritage is an epitome of natural beauty, and to visit it has been popular for many years. Our delegation will introduce visitors of the Chinese Hallstatt to what occurs in the original village all year around."
For 2012, the world heritage region is expecting a 50 per cent increase in hotel bookings. In the past five years, the region has experienced a 1000 per cent increase in Chinese arrivals and overnight stays.
