Luigi Bruins to transfer to Red Bull Salzburg

By Rebecca Musgrave

Dutch footballer Luigi Bruins has signed a contract with Red Bull Salzburg until the end of the season. The 24-year-old is hoped to close the current gap in the offensive midfield which is a result of injury within the Salzburg club.

Until this summer the player who is of both Dutch and Italian origin had played for Feyenoord Rotterdam. He will make his first appearance for Red Bull in Saturday’s Budesliga head-to-head with Wacker Innsbruck.

Bruins is not however the first Salzburg player of Dutch heritage. David Mendes da Silva, Leonardo, Petri Pasanen, Rasmus Lindgren and Simon Cziommer have all played in the Dutch Premier League, the Eredivisie, for several years.

The next game in the group stages of the Europa League will take place on 3 November at Athletic Bilbao. Bruins is not available to play.
