Arnautovic nets for Werder
Striker Marko Arnautovic is on his way to making an impact at his new club Werder Bremen after scoring in a test match yesterday (Tues).
Arnautovic netted once for Werder in a 3-1 friendly win against SSV Reutlingen.
The 21-year-old became Austria’s most expensive player of all time after joining the German Bundesliga club for around seven million Euros this summer from Twente Enschede.
The Dutch champions let Arnautovic play for Inter last season, but the former Rapid Vienna player failed to achieve a breakthrough in Italy.
He pressed on with a transfer to Germany instead of returning to the Netherlands.
The Vienna-born player is one of 15 Austrians under contract to German Bundesliga team’s senior squads. Bayern Munich midfielder David Alaba, 18, and Eintracht Frankfurt star Ümit Korkmaz, 24, are regarded as having the most potential among the Austrians in the league.
Arnautovic is expected to receive a call-up by national team coach Dietmar Constantini for a friendly against Switzerland scheduled to take place in Klagenfurt, Carinthia, on 11 August.
Meanwhile, Red Bull Salzburg are red-faced after losing 0-1 to Faroe Islands league champions HB Tórshavn yesterday.
The team of former Schalke 04 boss Huub Stevens performed poorly after winning the first leg of the second UEFA Champions League qualification round 5-0 last week.
