Energie Cottbus sign Obernosterer
Wacker Innsbruck star Markus Obernosterer has joined Energie Cottbus, it has emerged.
Club bosses said today (Weds) they had agreed on a one-year loan deal for the midfielder.
Obernosterer performed 20 times in the league for Wacker last season. The club managed promotion to the Bundesliga, while Cottbus failed doing so finishing Germany’s second highest league in ninth.
Cottbus coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz praised the 20-year-old as a "talented player".
Meanwhile, another Austrian left a German second league club as Christian Fuchs joined top-flight side Mainz 05 from VfL Bochum. The 24-year-old defender left Austrian Bundesliga club SV Mattersburg after performing for Austria in the Euro2008.
Fifteen Austrian footballers currently play for the senior team’s of German Bundesliga clubs.
Daniel Beichler hopes to play on top level next year after joining second league side Hertha BSC Berlin from Austrian club Sturm Graz.
The Austrian national team striker delighted fans by revealing that his Berlin-born grandmother’s name is Hertha.
