Lichtenstein star linked with Magna Wiener Neustadt move
Magna Wiener Neustadt is considering signing Lichtenstein national team ace Martin Büchel, according to reports.
The FC Zürich midfielder told LaOla1.at today (Mon): "I could imagine playing for a club in the Vienna area. Wiener Neustadt is an interesting option."
Magna Wiener Neustadt manager Peter Schöttel reportedly plans to offer a loan deal to bosses at Swiss top-flight side FC Zürich to secure the 23-year-old’s services for next season.
Büchel was on loan to Lichtenstein side FC Vaduz which has also been playing in the Swiss league the past six months.
Magna Wiener Neustadt, who are owned by businessman Frank Stronach, finished their first season in the Austrian Bundesliga in fifth place. They lost the ÖFB Cup final to fourth-placed Sturm Graz ruling out their chances of competing on an international level next season.
Club bosses recently announced the signing of SV Ried defender Thomas Burgstaller. Rapid Vienna fullback Christian Thonhofer will join the side on loan for one year, while Tanju Kayhan returns to Vienna after being with Magna for half a year.
Vice champions Austria Vienna meanwhile said former Sturm Graz star Mario Stankovic will join them from Italian Serie B club Triestina. The striker was also linked with Rapid Vienna who fear Croatian national team ace Nikica Jelavic will leave them this summer.
