Kranjcar named new Montenegro national team coach
Rapid Vienna star Zlatko "Zizo" Kranjcar has been named as new Montenegro national team manager today (Fri).
The 53-year-old former midfielder – a Rapid legend after scoring 130 goals in 266 matches between 1984 and 1990 – will take over the country’s national team, according to news website Croatian Times.
Kranjcar, who was sacked as coach of Iranian side Persepolis FC last month, managed the Croatian national team at the 2006 World Cup.
His son Niko, currently playing for English Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, grew up in Vienna and played for Rapid Vienna youth teams.
Zlatko Kranjcar last year came third in a ranking of Rapid’s best foreign players in the club’s 110-year-long history conducted by the editorial team of Austrian newspaper Kurier headed by former Poland ace Antonin Panenka.
