Pension system unfair says AK boss
Pension payments should be linked to the amount of time worked and not to age according to the Chamber of Labour (AK) in Salzburg.
The province's AK president Siegfried Pichler said that after 45 working years an Austrian should have the right to go into retirement.
He said: "Deciding the point at which somebody can enter their pensionable years by their age is really nonsense. It is antisocial, unfair and inhuman. Anybody that has already worked for 45 years has worked long enough."
He said that people in Austria who go into retirement should find it linked with their productive years.
He added: "There are people who started work at 15 and work 47 years before they get a pension. In contrast you have academics that probably study until their 30th year at public cost and then only work 30 years before they get a pension – which is usually higher than somebody's who has worked 42 or 47 years."
He said that in future pensions should be linked with working years.
