Minister rules out sex abuse teacher database
School's inspector Herbert Gimpel (SPÖ) has suggested a central database listing teachers convicted of sex offences.
The idea came after it was revealed that teachers fired for example for possession of child pornography could continue teaching in other states of Austria without letting their new employers know about their past.
However, Josef Galley, the press spokesman of the minister of education, Claudia Schmied (SPÖ), has already rejected the idea.
According to the ministry such methods while having some merits would breach the constitutional rights of those named and under current laws would be illegal.
