Ambassador 'beat his wife'

The Austrian Ambassador in Kosovo has been accused of beating up his wife.

Pristina newspaper Gazeta Express reports that Walter-Maria Stojan’s wife attended the city’s university clinic for treatment of her bruises. The woman was accompanied by two police officers and a translator, according to the report, which also has it that she refused to press charges against her husband.

Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal, a spokesman for the Austrian foreign ministry, confirmed being informed of the "regrettable incident".

He denied to reveal whether the diplomat – who is currently on holiday – will face consequences over the accusations.
