FPÖ MEP attacks Gaddafi

Freedom Party (FPÖ) MEP Andreas Mölzer has criticised "Libyan autocrat" Muammar Gaddafi for his call for a Muslim boycott of Switzerland.

Mölzer, a member of the European Parliament’s foreign affairs committee, said today (Fri): "Gaddafi’s call for a boycott of Switzerland because of the Swiss referendum calling for a ban on minarets is nothing more than inadmissible interference in the internal affairs of another country."

He went on to say that it was "insufferable" that Gaddafi had called for "jihad" or holy war against Switzerland. "That concept comes from Islamic fundamentals who want to bring aggressive missionary Islam to Europe," he added.

Gaddafi, Mölzer declared, was "no partner for Europe."

Gaddafi is also reportedly angry at Switzerland because his son Hannibal was briefly detained in 2008 in Geneva for beating his servants.

Former Carinthian Governor Jörg Haider had visited Libya and said the country could function as "a bridge builder" between the rest of the Arab world and Europe. Haider also worked with Gaddafi’s son Saif al-Islam.

Haider led the FPÖ until he left it in 2005 to form the Alliance for the Future of Austria (BZÖ).
