Milk cows shaken but not hurt
A herd of cows were injured when a couple from Holland lost control of their car which ran off the road and into the middle of the sleeping bovines.
The accident happened shortly before the Zederhaus toll collection point in the Salzburg Lungau region.
An elderly couple from Holland who are planning to leave the road at this point had broken down and the man aged 71 tried to push it to a slope where he could drive it off the busy road. But he slipped and fell – banging his head and knocking himself out.
He had planned to jump back into the car in order to steer it but instead the car rolled off on its own and into a field were it injured the cows and then carried on going. The man's 73-year-old wife only managed to stop the car using the handbrake after almost a kilometre.
The injured motorist was taken to the nearby Tamsweg hospital. The cows were checked by a vet who said that none of them had received any lasting injuries.
