Five year old vanished without trace

A five-year-old girl has vanished without a trace while walking with her grandfather at Nötsch in Carinthia.

The child Franca D. simply disappeared without a trace.

The girl vanished around 4pm after being seen for the last time in the area of the Wasserleonburg castle.

Rudi Katholnig from the Corinthian mountain rescue service says that the area around the castle is very steep, and heavily overgrown. There is also a lake close to where the girl disappeared. However, the water was searched without a body being found.

Overall 180 people were looking for the girl until 3am without success. The whole area was searched but due the darkness at night the vision was very limited, says Katholnig.

Police spokesman Michael Masaniger said that they had tried everything in their power to find the girl. The police do not suspect a case of kidnapping so far.
