Child injured in water slide accident

A child suffered serious injuries after a water slide accident yesterday (Sunday) in Bad Goisern, in Upper Austria.

The seven-year-old was on a slide in an outdoor pool when he fell four meters from the slide in a steep curve.

The boy was reportedly sliding so fast that he was flung over the edge.

Werner Schilcher, boss of the pool in Bad Goisern, said: "There were relatively few people in the pool at the time of the accident as it happened at 10.25 in the morning. Therefore very few people witnessed the accident."

The child suffered a fracture to the base of the scull, bleeding of the brain and stomach injuries.

The child was airlifted to hospital in Salzburg where he is receiving treatment. He has been put in an artificial coma for the time being.
