Sebastian Death an accident say police
The tragic death of 10-year-old Sebastian, who died when he was buried alive in a sandpit whilst holidaying with family on the North Sea Island of Amrum, Germany has been declared a tragic accident according to German police.
Sebastian, from Baden, Lower Austria was found buried under sand on a children's playground.
After initial suspicion German police who have been carrying out an investigation said yesterday that the boy would have lost consciousness and suffocated when the hole he was digging collapsed on him covering him in 1.5 metres worth of sand.
The police believe that the 10-year-old would have dug the hole together with other children who were playing on the pirate ship playground with him.
His body was only found when another holidaymaker noticed that Sebastian could be seen playing in the sandpit in a snapshot she'd taken of her own children in the playground.
Although the German Lifesaving society is located just 100 metres from the place of the accident, they did not realise the boy's death agony. It is alleged that roofed wicker beach chairs could have hindered their view of the playground.
Meanwhile Sebastian's family already returned back home to Austria.
A memorial will be built on the beach of Wittdün to commemorate the tragic death of the 10-year-old.
