Mother on trial after drowning daughter in bathtub

A mother is in court today (Weds) in Innsbruck, Austria facing murder charges after she drowned her seven-year-old daughter in the bath tub just before Christmas last year.

The 40-year-old single mum is accused of losing her nerve and holding her daughter's head under water until she died.

She then called her sister to tell her the child was dead.

Rescuers were then sent to the property but attempts to resuscitate the child failed.

The mother it is reported was almost not addressable and was in a distraught state after the incident. She was in a very mentally unstable state.

The public prosecutor has requested that she be taken to an institution for mentally deranged criminals if found guilty.

This will depend on the report by the court psychiatrist.
