Hidden schilling stash found in old house
Two plumbers working on an old house in Schärding, Austria, found a stash of 72,000 schillings (worth 5,219 Euros) whilst carrying out work on the property.
The box containing the money had been hidden in a box under the bath. The box was nearly thrown away by the plumbers, but they decided to look into it at the last minute.
The 15-year-old plumber's apprentice who found the stash of cash showed it to the 52-year-old plumber, and together they took the cash to the police.
Police are trying to track down the owner or inheritor of the money.
According to the Austrian National Bank there are still 8.9 billion Schilling (643 million Euro) in circulation despite the Euro being introduced 10 years ago.
