Vorarlberg desperate for graduates
The Austrian province of Vorarlberg has a desperate shortage of graduates.
Experts claim approximately one thousand academics, business experts, maths and physics professors, doctors and technical experts are needed in the region.
Approximately half of all students from Vorarlberg do not return to work in the province.
Wirtschafts-Standort Vorarlberg, a service organisation that aims at strengthening the innovation and economic dynamics in the region of Vorarlberg, claims there are many reasons why graduates do not return to the area even though they are desperately needed.
Director Joachim Heinzl said: "After spending time studying in places like Vienna and Graz many students have built up a social circle in these other cities. They make friends and enjoy the opportunities which these cities bring. They are also not aware of the career opportunities on offer in Vorarlberg."
A new internet site is aimed at attracting qualified personnel back to the region especially in the technical department.
Companies from Vorarlberg have been making presentations in cities like Vienna and Graz in the hope to attract new people.
