Dubai mercy killing doc to write book
Austrian doctor Eugen Adelsmayr, who was accused of euthanasia in Dubai in 2009 and whose case is still in court in the country, is to write a book about his experience.
Adelsmayer from Bad Ischl, Austria, is writing a book about his experience in Dubai and his trial and time working in the Middle East - and the book is expected to be published in October.
Eugen Adelsmayr, who has been in and out of court in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since July, was accused by a former colleague of having ordered staff not to resuscitate a paraplegic man after he had suffered several cardiac arrests. State prosecutors called for the death sentence of the anaesthetist from Bad Ischl in Upper Austria over the supposed case of euthanasia which took place in 2009. The suspended doctor from Austria was not however on duty the night the patient died.
Adelsmayr kept a diary whilst working in Dubai and is using this to help him write his story.
At the beginning of 2012 Adelmayer’s wife tragically lost her life after a battle with breast cancer at the age of 57.
Adelmayer’s next trial date is scheduled for July 2012.
