Child dies after routine dental surgery

A four-year-old child has died after routine dental surgery at the LKH hospital in Graz, in Styria, Austria.

Police are investigating after the child from Leoben died at the weekend after being in a coma for several days after the operation.

A post mortem is being carried out to determine the cause of death and results are expected by the end of the week.

The investigation will also determine whether the girl was ill before the operation.

The child never woke up from the anaesthetic given during the operation.

The public prosecutor is also investigating possible involuntary manslaughter charges.
