Mother leaves baby in hot car to go shopping

Worried passers by managed to rescue a one-year-old baby form a hot car in Braunau, Austria, as temperatures soared to 34 degrees in Austria yesterday (Monday).

The mother had left the child strapped into a car seat as she and the grandmother went into a shopping centre.

A passer by heard the child screaming in the car, and notified the shopping centre to search for the mother - but she did not respond to a tannoy request.

Police were called and in the meantime passerby’s had managed to free the girl from the scorching car though a window which had been left slightly open.

Police questioned the mother, who had in the meantime returned to the car, and claimed she had left the baby as she did not want to wake her up to take her into the shopping centre.

A report has been passed to prosecutors who will decide on whether to press charges.
