Nine year old died in swimming accident
A nine-year-old boy died after he was swept away by a strong current whilst swimming in the Ybbs near to the Allersdorf hydropower station in Amstetten, Lower Austria.
According to eye-witnesses the child was swept away as he swam with his mother.
The child was only found thirty minutes later after being swept suddenly downstream.
Emergency teams tried to resuscitate the child for one hour but were unsuccessful.
51 firemen joined the search for the boy as well as the Ybbs Water Rescue team.
The Christophorus 15 helicopter also joined in the search.
The boy was found 50 metres away from where he was swimming.
Four of the rescuers needed medical attention as their body temperatures had dropped during the search and rescue operation.
