Graz to offer solar power to all
Councillors in the southern city of Graz are pressing ahead with plans to make it possible for everybody in the city to generate their own energy from solar power.
Up until now many people have been unable to opt for solar power because of a place to put the panels – currently it really is only suitable for householders.
But under the ambitious new project everybody in the region will be allowed to have solar panels in nearby solar energy farms with the electricity generated taken off their electricity bill.
In this post to be possible under the new partner project called "Solaranleger" which allows people in Graz to take advantage of a sale and lease back contract for anything from 1 to 10 solar panels.
That means a cost of between 325 and 6,500 Euros.
There is already one huge solar plant at the local airport. Two other similar sized projects are now planned.
At the moment Energie Graz operates the solar plants on city property and they will also be the partner for the new projects.
The projects are to receive a €425,000 investment from the council and are set to start in autumn.
