Sun hospitalises hikers

Two brothers from Lower Austria have been hospitalised after suffering severe sunburn and eye damage on Tuesday, while hiking on a mountain tour from Salzburg to Carinthia.

The pair, not named by authorities but who were aged 19 and 30, had spent the entire day hiking through the mountains and only realised how badly hurt they had been by the sun after waking up the next day.

Rescue services said today (Thurs) that the pair had not used any sunscreen or sunglasses during the day and warned against the danger of high altitude walking without proper protection.

Both of the hikers were taken to the hospital in Zell am See.
