Boy attacked by donkey
A four-year-old boy has been seriously injured after being attacked by a donkey yesterday (Mon).
Police in Steinhaus, Styria, said today the child was visiting a local animal enclosure with his parents during their weekend vacation when the incident happened.
The donkey bit the boy’s hand as he struck it through a fine-meshed fence. It took his parents a few minutes to free him as the animal refused to let go.
The child is now recovering at the LKH clinic in nearby Mürzzuschlag. Doctors said he suffered a broken bone, bruises and an open wound as the donkey tore off some flesh.
Steinhaus officials said they had asked a local vet to examine the donkey for any signs of disease, adding that the enclosure is equipped with several warning signs appealing to visitors to stay clear of the fence.
A Carinthian pensioner, 65, is meanwhile recovering after a donkey bit off the tip of his little finger when he visited his wife’s farming estate in St. Michael ob Bleiburg last week.
