Many teens say raising kids is women's main task
Almost one in three Austrian students say raising children is the major job of women, according to a poll.
The latest International Civic and Citizenship Education Study and Austrian pollsters SORA found that 32 per cent of teenagers believe child raising to be a woman’s main responsibility.
The survey also shows that 29 per cent think men are better qualified to take political leadership positions than women, while 13 per cent told researchers they would prefer women not to get involved in politics at all.
With 22 per cent, more than one in five Austrian students agreed with the suggestion that men should be prioritised on the labour market if there is a lack of available jobs.
One in ten questioned students said men and women did not have to be paid equally for the same work.
SORA found as part of a different research last month that 14 per cent of adult Austrians regarded the role of a housewife as a woman’s "natural occupation", down from 51 per cent in 1978.
