Karl Heinz Böhm gets wish for a school in his name
The Austrian actor Karl Heinz Böhm made a wish for his 80th birthday - to build a school in Ethiopia.
That was four years ago and today that wish is now set to become a reality after the School of Economics in Graz in Styria raised 50,000 Euros to fund the project - which together with other local institutions means a total of 180,000 Euros has been raised.
The money was then handed over to Almaz Böhm, wife of Karl Heinz Böhm who was born in Ethiopia herself.
The initiative "Menschen für Menschen" (People for People) will now built a school in the town Abu Yifech at Addis Ababa giving space for 1,000 students a year.
Twelve classrooms along with accommodation facilities for teachers will be built by the "Menschen für Menschen" group.
Some 30 Million of the 80 Million Ethiopians are unable to read or write and half of all children have never been to school.
The goal of an initiative "ABC-2015" which is supported by "Menschen für Menschen" is to lower the rate of analphabets by the year 2015.
