University registration period brought forward
For the first time the deadline for registration at Salzburg University has been brought forward.
The deadline has been brought forward to September 5th.
So far there has only been 900 students register from the expected 2,500 new students.
Erich Müller from Salzburg University expects there to be a surge in registrations over the next two weeks.
He also said between 100 and 200 students would miss the deadline: "Between five and ten per cent of the new students will miss the deadline. This will mean they are not able to begin their studies on time."
However he adds: "There are certain exceptions for those who miss the deadline but have a plausible reason. For example people repeating their exams or people finishing military service. Also if you are not in the country and were not able to make the deadline there may be an exception made.
The new registration dates at Austrian universities was set to allow universities to plan their intake better.
