10,200 applicants for 1,530 medical university places
Around 10,200 medical school hopefuls are sitting the entrance exams today (Friday) in hope of securing one of the 1,530 medical school places in Austria.
The applicants hoping to study at either Vienna, Graz or Innsbruck had to register to take the entrance exam.
75 per cent of the places are reserved for Austrian applicants with the Austrian Matura school leaver exams.
20 per cent of the places will go to applicants form other EU countries and 5 per cent to non EU applicants.
The results for the exams are expected by the end of July, beginning of August.
In Vienna and Innsbruck there are less applicants than last year. In Graz there were slightly more.
In Graz the test costs 67 Euro and in Vienna and Innsbruck 97 Euro.
This year the male and female results will be looked at separately. This should enable the results of women who generally do worse in the exams to get more study places.
