Giant shoe box World Record attempt
From September 1st the world's largest shoe box will be located on Vienna's Mariahilfestrasse for three weeks to collect old shoes in aid of the development organisation Humana.
In a Guinness World Record attempt the shoe box measuring 4.8x 2.5 x 2.1 metres will be open every day from 10.00 until 17.00 and residents of Vienna are encouraged to deposit their old, unwanted, usable shoes in the giant box.
Actress Katharina Stemberger, this ear voted 'Mrs Shoe', finds the initiative a 'good idea'.
"Many of our cupboards are full of clothes and shoes which we have not worn for years, but which would benefit other people.
'Mr Shoe', Profil Editor Christian Rainer, said: "I like shoes which are hand made, of the best quality and which last a long time. But of course I also have some which would be good candidates to get rid of.
The giant shoe box is the launch point for the show collection which is running in around 130 shoe shops throughout Austria from 1st until 22nd of September.
For every pair of shoes handed in the customer get a 2 Euro voucher which can be used in the shops which are taking part in the collection.
"Humana People to People - Organisation for Development Cooperation" is collecting good quality, wearable clothing to support development projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
