New visitor centre at Schönbrunn Palace
Vienna's most visited tourist attraction Schönbrunn Palace is to get a new visitor centre it has been announced.
The final works are currently being carried out before it is opened for a trial at the end of August.
Last year 10.1 million Euro was invested in restoration works at Schönbrunn.
The central hall and the large gallery were restored. Now the latest addition will be the visitor centre which will be located by the main entrance to the palace.
The completed visitor centre will be open to the public from October.
Franz Sattlecker, Managing Director of the Schloss Schönbrunn Kultur- und Betriebsgesellschaft said: "It will be an absolute high-tech ncentre. All information will be presented on large screens such as how long waiting times are, where to get tickets and what else is on offer.
The new visitor centre will also include a coffee shop and in summer there will also be outdoor tables.
Last year (2011) 2.66 million people visited Schönbrunn. In the first half of 2012 so far 1.17 million people have visited.
