Albertinas new collection
This autumn, a new exhibition at the Albertina gallery in Vienna will be opening in memory of Maximilian I.
The exhibition will include works by Albrecht Durer and Albrecht Altdorfer. Some of the highlights of the exhibition are Triumphal Procession, Arch of Honor and Theuerdank, Weisskunig and Freydal.
The exhibition will also incorporate work from a wide variety of museums, such as Museum of Art New York, the Berlin Kupferstichkabinett and the Viennese Kunsthistoriches Museum.
The exhibition will be open from 14 September 2012 to 6 January 2013.
Before it’s opening, there is plenty of time to pay a visit to one of the other exhibitions on show at the Albertina this summer.
The choice includes the permanent collection, Albertina contemporary collection, Kircher Heckel Nolde, or Joel Sternfeld collections.
Albertina’s permanent collection has been featured in the Albertina since spring 2007. It includes international modern art works from all over the world.
The exhibition includes a permanent loan from the Rita und Herbert Batliner Foundation in Liechtenstein. Unmatched works from French Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and German Expressionism, Russian avant-garde and other styles can be found in the collection as well.
Some of the artists whose work is included in the exhibition are Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, in addition to many others.
The collection is open all year around and is always evolving.
The Albertina Contemporary is an exhibition of 120 "best" works picked from Albertina’s assortment of contemporary art.
The collection features works from selected number of artists such as Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, and Arnulf Rainer.
The collection of Albertina’s contemporary art is always increasing as the gallery pursues its interest in the specific field.
The exhibition will only last until 19 August and is worth a visit, as it provides a great overview of contemporary art in Austria.
The Werner Collection offers a glimpse of the collected works of a very passionate and dedicated art collector.
She began her career as a secretary following Second World War. Eventually meeting Wilhelm Grosshennig, a famous art dealer, she focused on collecting art works, especially from period of German Expressionism.
Erich Heckel, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Emil Nolde have many of their pieces featured in this collection. However, beside them the 90 piece collection will include Picasso, Matisse and Modigliani.
The collection will be open until 26 August 2012.
The final collection is Colour Photographs Since 1970 dedicated to Joel Sternfeld.
Sternfeld was an American photographer and one of the most essential contributors to New Color Photography.
The exhibition will include around 130 works from eleven different projects, done throughout a period spanning three decades.
The collection will even include Joel Sternfeld’s unpublished work and present to the audience different perspectives of America.
Available until 30 September 2012, it is currently the only photograph exhibition in Albertina.
