New website for kids launched in over six languages
A new web page by an Austrian software firm featuring children’s content in six languages aims to provide both a fun experience as well as teach children about how the internet can be used.
The website – Cosmo & Nanu – is designed for children of different cultures and comes in six languages. The website content can be found both on the web and on applications for smartphones. The interactive experience is meant to help children develop their own ideas and satisfy their curiosity – as well as having fun.
Cosmo & Nanu is a duo consisting of one small alien and one black sheep. The website publishes a comic strip regularly featuring these characters, both of which have a lot of history; Cosmo started out as a mascot for the children’s program in Graz in 2003, and Nanu was a "children’s version" of the Bible black sheep translated into several languages.
As well as satisfying their creativity, children are also introduced to the social aspects of the web with areas on the site such as forums and comments sections. The site is not connected to Facebook, and so the social experience is an easy start for junior internet users.
The creators of the site want it to be a bridge between the virtual world and the real world of children. The contents are freely accessible and without advertising. They are editorially controlled, so that parents can leave their children to surf safely on the Cosmo & Nanu website.
The website is new, but Cosmo & Nanu toys have been available for a few years. These will remain as yet another connection to the interactive fantasy world of the alien and his sheep comrade.
Cosmo & Nanu want to entertain, but also promote medial competence, creativity and education. They believe that children should get to know their own culture and accept the culture of others. The children should learn that there are many different cultures and languages all of which are equal.
The management behind the website and the Cosmo & Nanu project is a small company without a budget. The organization is nonprofit, but they can be supported by visiting their online shop and buying their products.
