Art gallery conned over exchange rate sting
Austrian police are hunting a conman based in the UK who agreed to buy a valuable painting by email - and then asked for a refund because a mistake in working out the currency exchange meant he had accidentally sent a cheque for 6,000 euros more than the agreed price.
Two days after the Austrian art gallery in Innsbruck had refunded the difference by wire transfer to the UK bank - they were told that the original cheque had bounced - and the 6,000 transferred had already been withdrawn.
