Games night hits Vienna
Six Vienna game clubs open their doors tonight for a night full of games including Chess, Go or Tarock. The evening is meant both as a night of playing these games for enthusiasts, as well as learning them for novices.
It is tonight (Thursday) that the Vienna Games Academy organises their first all-night session of classic games. Chess, Bridge, Go, Tarock, Skat and Mahjong will be available during the night, together with professionals to teach others about them.
In an interview with the ORF, the organiser Rainer Stowasser said: "We want to re-introduce classic games."
And Ferdinand de Cassan at the Games Academy said: "We want to make people shy away from these kinds of games less."
Visitors can come by at any time during the evening to try the games at the six locations throughout the city. The doors will be open from 18:00 until midnight.
In "Go7" on Mariahilfer Straße, professionals will focus on teaching visitors how to play the Asian game Go, and six other Asian games will also be found there.
In the House of Chess and Ottakring Chess Club the focus will be Chess, and visitors will find members of the clubs to play with and learn from during the evening.
In "Café Rathaus" Skat will be played, and in "Till Eulenspiegel" in Floridsdoft the focus is Tarock.
"White Castle" in the Museum Quarter will display the latest in board games, as well as modern takes on classic games for visitors to try out. Participants can also suggest own ideas for board games there.
Taking part in this evening of games is free, and those who visit more than one location will have the chance to win many different games.
