Free Tickets Raise Temp At Hospital
An unhealthy row has broken out among staff at the Vienna hospital that saved the life of George Michael over who should get the 1,000 tickets he presented medics as a thankyou.
Doctors and nurses at the AKH hospital say management and bureaucrats have grabbed the lion's share of the tickets, leaving those who did the real work short changed.
One doctor personally involved in George's treatment told Austrian newspaper Österreich: "I was one of the doctors who worked in intensive care and was personally involved in the care of George Michael. But we have been allocated far too few tickets. There are not enough for staff never mind the fact we would like to take take partners with us."
The doctor said others including professors have been taking the majority of the tickets and that the rest were being sold off, even thought there were enough staff who would like to go to the concert.
AKH spokesperson Karin Fehringer said: "Tickets will only be sold when everyone who wants tickets has them. Only if there was no-one who wanted them could we sell them and would give the proceeds to a good cause."
George Michael spent a month in the AKH hospital in Vienna.
George promised the tickets as a thankyou to the medical staff who helped care for him. The tickets are for the extra concert to be staged at the Vienna Stadthalle in the Austrian capital.
