Prater club is still at the top
It did not take long for Pratersauna to make the transformation from a down-at-heel sauna in Vienna’s Prater Park into one of the most popular club venues in the Austrian capital.
The poolbar and Prater Unser festivals make it easy to see why Pratersauna is regarded as one of the best clubs in Europe.
Even in its new guise as a club, Pratersauna has retained some of its original 1960s charm. Following a root and branch renovation in 2009, the former sauna has enjoyed a new life as one of the capital's most popular late night haunts.
In January 2012 the readers of Berlin-based magazine de:bug voted Pratersauna Europe's second best club for the second year in a row.
Western Austria's popular culture festival, poolbar, will set up shop in Pratersauna for the third time on May 10 to 12 this year, with a broad range of musical genres from lesser-known niches to mainstream pop. Canadian star DJ A-Trak - who filled dance floors the world over as one of the main collaborators on smash hit Barbra Streisand - is headlining.
A month later the next festival will be waiting in to take over when poolbar’s time is over. On the 14-18 June, all three floors of Pratersauna, as well as its pool, will be the centre of the Prater Unser club festival, which is also in its third year in 2012.
Various locations throughout the Prater park will play host to top international acts from the worlds of house, techno, dubstep, drum'n'bass, electro, disco, hip-hop and much more.
Among the stars are Delano Smith from Detroit, Juju & Jordash from Amsterdam and UK outfits Krystal Klear and Om Unit. A techno carriage on Vienna's trademark Riesenrad (Giant Ferris Wheel) and a 24hr Sunday party will complete the event.
