Sax sensation at the Volkstheater
The Volkstheater promises a night to remember as an award-winning saxophone orchestra is at the ready to rock Vienna.
The Flying Saxophone Circus consists of 12 of the best saxophone players of Germany. Conducted by Milan Turkovic, they are set to perform at Vienna’s Volkstheater on 19 February. German critics praised the orchestra for delivering a manifold show full of surprises. Compositions by Antonin Dvorak, George Gershwin, Dmitri Shostakovich and other luminaries will be part of the programme.
The Volkstheater is one of Austria’s most popular theatres. Its current repertoire features Arthur Schnitzler’s drama "Der einsame Weg", Ron Hutchinson’s comedy play "Mondlicht und Magnolien" (Moonlight and Magnolias) and "Die Reise", a theatre project by Jacqueline Kornmüller focusing on the various experiences of immigrants and asylum seekers in Austria. Martin Sperr’s "Jagdszenen aus Niederbayern" directed by Schirin Khodadadian will premiere later this month. The Volkstheater is situated in Vienna-Neubau. Another popular cultural institution of Neubau district is Peter Coeln’s Westlicht photo gallery where images by celebrated photographer Weegee are currently on display. Weegee’s pictures document the rough daily life in New York City from murders on the street to horrific housing estate blazes killing impoverished families. The exhibit features around 250 photographs taken between 1932 and 1960. For information on opening hours and admission prices, visit www.westlicht.com.
