Stefan Zweig premiere at Salzburg Festival

A play based on one of Stefan Zweig’s most acclaimed works premiered at the Salzburg Festival (Salzburger Festspiele) Wednesday night.

"Angst" (Fear), a novella written by the late Austrian novelist in 1920, deals with the wide spectrum of feelings a marriage can bring - from joy through to hatred.

The Vienna-born Zweig, who passed away in Brazil in 1942, is considered one of Austria’s most important authors of all time.

The Salzburg Festival meanwhile continues with dozens of operas, theatre plays and classical music concerts. Celebrities and high-profile businessmen as well as leading politicians have been attending the event – which looks back on a 90-year history – year after year.

The festival, which is considered as Austria’s most important summer event of culture alongside the Bregenz Festival (Bregenzer Festspiele) and will run until 30 August, opened with a performance of Hugo von Hoffmansthal’s drama "Jedermann" last Sunday.
