Howard Shore to get gong at Vienna film music gala

Canadian composer Howard Shore will be honoured in Vienna later this year as the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO) is set to perform some of his most famous melodies in an upcoming gala.

The famed composer will receive the Max Steiner Award – named after the late Viennese Hollywood score composer ("King Kong", "Casablanca") – as the "Hollywood in Vienna" returns to the Konzerthaus on 16 September.

British Oscar winner John Barry, who was unable to attend the event himself, received the gong at the first edition of the gala last year.

Shore created the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy’s score. He won three Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards and four Grammy Awards. Norwegian Rebekka Bakken and the Vienna Boys' Choir will sing some of Shore’s compositions.
